Realm Royale – Just another “Battle Royale” or is it an Actual Contender?
When you talk about “Battle Royale,” the most prominent names that come to mind are PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds and Fortnite. In a battle royale game, you are dropped into an arena where you have to survive and be the last man standing to win. You not only have enemies to fight against but also have to stay within the allocated zone, as it changes throughout the game.
Realm Royale is the newest game on the block, and we must say it is quite similar to games like Fortnite and PUBG, but it manages to stand its ground as well. It offers a bit more than the regular games we are all used to and functions through layers choosing classes, crafting weapons, crafting turrets, and much more. One of the best features of this game is the fact that it is free to play. The PC game was made available as Early Access on Steam on June 5, 2018, and have received lots of positive reviews so far. So, let’s see what exactly makes this game different than the rest and if it’s worth the time and effort or not.
When you play the game it’s hard to find people but using our Realm Royale Wallhack will let you see everyone at all times, check out the image below-showing people behind walls and objects.
Realm Royale The Gameplay
Realm Royale is the brainchild of “Hi-Rez Studios.” Yes, they are the very same developers who made “Paladins-Champion of the Realm.” Much like any other battle royale game, it does not feature a storyline but has classes to choose from and play as. If you have played PUBG and Fortnite or generally like MMORPGs or even just RPGs, you will find this game right up your alley.
The game starts with you having to choose how you want to play, either Duos or Squads (that’s right, no solo rounds). You have the option to “fill team” which is basically like turning off the “auto-matching” feature in PUBG. After this, the game takes you to a screen where you choose your class. You have five types to choose from Warrior, Engineer, Assassin, Mage, and Hunter.
Each class comes with their own set of specific skills and “legendary weapons” that manage to kill enemies with 1 or 2 blows. The only way to get these weapons is to craft them during the game by breaking down others. Yes, you heard me right, you get to do other things than just being the last man standing. Although the main aim is still the last man standing, the fact that it makes you do other things during the game is quite fun and dare I say it, different than the rest. It makes you work for the good stuff.
Once you’re done choosing your class, you will be sent into a lobby where you run around till there are enough players to make the battle royale sequence complete, which is similar to other battle royale games. Once all the layers are found, you will find yourself in a blimp looking ship flying over the designated map in a different direction every time.
In Realm Royale, however, you do not have a parachute. You merely jump and land unharmed like a superhuman and all you start out with is a knife to protect yourself.
From here on out, you need to be the quickest to find a range of things to be able to survive. From weapons to armor to boots, every element plays a role in helping you be the last man standing. Throughout the game, you will find better armor and weapons, but I feel that the developers need to increase the number of chests, which players can see.
There typically isn’t enough loot, and it’s more of a first come first serve situation, which defeats the purpose of a battle royale game mode. You don’t get a chance to survive then. Breaking down items you find will give you “shards” to make the legendary weapon of the class you picked. To travel through the map, you have a horse you can mount at any time, unlike PUBG where you find randomly parked vehicles.
Even though this game is in Early Access and still has a long way to go, it performs surprisingly well. Yes, it has the usual glitches, lag, non-responsive buttons, etc., but it also has excellent graphics, those equal to if not better than Fortnite, a higher frame rate, and even a more active and challenging gameplay. I believe as time progresses, the developers will fix the issues.
Realm Royale System Requirements
Now since this game is only for the PC universe, you can count on it needing high-quality graphics cards and loads of RAM and ROM to operate. If you want to play this game you will need:
1. A PC
2. Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00 GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
3. Ram: 6 GB
4. Hard Disk Space: 5 GB
5. Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555
Considering these as the basic requirements to be able to play this game without any problems, you can imagine how much it might have to offer.
The Sounds and Visuals
The sound effects of any game are essential in making them memorable. Realm Royale does not disappoint in this department. From the chicken clucking to the sirens and horns blowing every time the fog begins converging are lovely to hear and do not get bothersome over time, unlike PUBG where the SFX in opening settings and regular actions get annoying after some time. I caught myself turning the SFX sounds off, but in Realm Royale, it was entirely different. Even the music playing through loading screens and on the home screen, all made me feel warm and fuzzy.
Games have started to seem more realistic by the day, and though Realm Royale may not look so, the skybox begs to differ. When you are flying and subsequently falling through the sky, it would be a good idea to move the camera around and relish the details. It makes you sit back and want to stare at it for as long as possible. It’s just so visually appealing that there is no way you cannot observe the beauty. The animations feel incredibly smooth and sweet to look at, and they make the game and characters feel almost weightless. The colors and contrasts make the game even more visually appealing as well. For me, things were not hard to spot nor was anything unpleasant. The use of contrast colors and the overall color grading was very well thought through and executed even better.
Controls and Navigation
I found it pretty easy to get used to game control. You have main movement buttons and then two slots to switch between weapons. You have your class’s specific ability. Then you can pick up three special abilities and have health and armor potions. You can also call the amount, which is your horse. There’s no storyline, but the diverse classes make it a little different because everyone finds themselves playing a bit differently. And certain weapons and abilities are restricted to certain levels. For instance, some classes can use melee weapons such as swords and long-range shooters like snipers.
Unlike other games where players automatically pick up items that are better than what they were carrying, you have to make decisions on your own about what to pick up and drop. Sure, you can disable the auto pick up function, but then it also defeats the fun knowing you could pick up anything better without thinking about it.
Controlling your horse or your “mount” or navigating your way when you are falling through the sky is very easy too. I did not struggle with controlling either of them regarding turning directions and speed. It had just the right amount of response time and sensitivity, and I didn’t have to adjust it.
Aiming weapons may seem a tedious task to carry through with because the crosshair is quite small. As far as I could tell, you cannot change the size of the dot to aim nor the white color to make it easier to use against light surroundings.
Realm Royale has a lot to offer and will get better over time, but I wish that they would provide patches for bug fixes in quick time to make the game more immersive. For instance, Hi-Rez needs to resolve glitches. I am sure they are aware of the issues, but they need to take immediate action and fix the glitches and lag problems, this is a much faster-paced battle Royale game than Fortnite and PUBG, and I like it that way. However, if it lags the way it does, it kind of defeats the purpose of its faster pace.
Other glitches such as not being able to interact with anything even when you boot up the game making you restart it, or not being able to move in specific directions at all times are all small imperfections that I think should be fixed as soon as possible before Realm Royale starts losing its following.
Another element that makes Realm Royale feel just subpar is the fact that there is an endless amount of roaming around hoping to bump into somebody to fight without of pure coincidence. The game either needs to have a larger pool of players before going into a match to fill out the vast map or make the map smaller to fit in the regular 100 players at a time.
To Play or Not to Play?
There are so many battle Royale games out there that it feels like it is becoming redundant now, much like zombie modes in FPS games. Although they offer different game modes, each with excellent graphics and features, there is the same old spawn, kill, either die or survive to be #1 going on in BR. Games like PUBG, Fortnite, H1Z1, Radical Heights, Darwin Project, Maelstrom, Surviv.io and SO many more have the same gameplay.
Realm Royale is just another Battle Royale game to come into the market of established contenders. However, I believe that this Battle Royale exclusive has so much more to offer and maybe the breath of fresh air that the gaming world needs. Hi-Rez Studios has taken the best bits and pieces from the existing games to make them better. It may be exclusive to the PC universe, but this might be the turning point that would make gamers say “I think it’s time to build my own PC” exclusively for Realm Royale. However, one of the best features is that it is free to play for any PC owner with the proper system requirements.
Like I mentioned before, it has a long way to go to get to the top of the leader’s board, and the only way Realm Royale is going to survive is through quick patches, not giving players any chance to complain about the bugs and glitches. I hope to see this game get better and better as time goes on.
